" My commitment to Student Health Services in the Harrisonburg community spans over 30 years. My journey began at Eastern Mennonite University Health Centers, before I joined Harrisonburg City Public Schools (HCPS) in 1996. I served in the first full-time student health services position. After working for thirteen years with elementary-aged students, my responsibilities now include leading the HCPS Student Health Services program while serving as a certified school nurse at Rocktown High School.
I am very proud that we now have a registered nurse in every HCPS building. Our staff is dedicated to promoting the holistic well-being and comprehensive wellness of all our students ,every day. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, reading, and improving my beekeeping skills. "
"I grew up in Richmond, Virginia and have degrees from Eastern Mennonite University in both Biology and Nursing. After college, I moved to the Valley permanently with my husband where we have had the pleasure of adding two children to our family. I started my nursing career in the operating room where I worked as a circulating and scrub nurse for seven years.
I am excited to begin my second school year at Harrisonburg High School, providing support for students daily lives as well as educating and advocating for their overall health! When I am not working I enjoy playing volleyball recreationally, reading, spending time with my family, and catching up on Survivor!"
" I grew up in Rockingham County, moved around quite a bit as an adult, and have now found myself back in this lovely part of the world. I am excited to be working at THMS to support student health services as the nurse here.
Since finishing a nursing degree at Eastern Mennonite University in 1998, I have worked in infectious disease, community health, mental health, long term and skilled care, and nursing education. I completed a graduate degree in public health at Tulane University in 2004. I worked as a nurse in East and Southern Africa for 14 years and am grateful for the opportunity to use my Kiswahili language skills here at THMS and in the Harrisonburg community.
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, visiting art museums, playing card games, and taking walks in my neighborhood. "
" Hello HCPS family. This year marks my tenth year as the school nurse at Skyline Middle School. Before coming to Skyline, I was the school nurse at Orange Elementary. I love working with children and seeing them grow into amazing individuals.
I was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley. I moved to the Charlottesville area for a few years and then returned to Harrisonburg. I have one child who is attending James Madison University. When I'm not working I enjoy hiking, spending time with family and friends, and eating at the local restaurants. "

" Hello! My name is Katlyn May, and I'm so excited to be a part of the HCPS community as your school nurse. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Liberty University and began my nursing career as a bedside nurse at Sentara RMH. Most recently, I worked as a diabetes education specialist, where I had the opportunity to support patients in managing chronic health needs with confidence. I'm passionate about creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where every student can thrive. I look forward to partnering with families, teachers, and staff to promote health and wellness throughout the school year! "
" After obtaining an RN degree from Blue Ridge Community College, I began my nursing career working at the "old" Rockingham Memorial Hospital. I then went on to work in a nursing home and later became a school nurse substitute which is when I fell in love with school nursing. I have been a full-time Harrisonburg City School nurse for several years now and enjoy helping the Keister community.
My family and I live on a farm in Churchville. My husband, two sons, and I love spending time outdoors with our two dogs and cat. I am so blessed to be able to help the Harrisonburg City community. "
" I have been working in public/community health for the past fourteen years. My Introduction to public health started while working as a nutritionist assistant with the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) nutrition program with the Virginia Department of Health. I later became a nursing assistant and it became clear that nursing was my calling. I obtained my nursing degree from Blue Ridge Community College in 2011 and then obtained my bachelor of science in nursing from Eastern Mennonite University. I worked for VDH for about ten years before making the move to school nursing in 2017.
I love working with students and their families. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and am a first generation Mexican American. I am fluent in Spanish and love the opportunity that this gives me to connect with our students, and their parents. This also gives me the ability to help other team members communicate with limited English speakers. I moved to Harrisonburg in 2004 with my husband and kids. We love living in this area and enjoy all the beautiful scenery. I enjoy baking, crocheting, and spending time with family and friends when not in school. "

" I grew up in Rockingham County and never left! I graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School and Eastern Mennonite University. I have had lots of nursing experiences - from working in the newborn nursery at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, to working family practice in an office setting. In 2006 I started working at Harrisonburg City Public Schools. School Nursing is one of my favorite jobs ever.
When I'm not at work, I am at home with my husband and four children. We have lots of animals (cats, dogs, guinea pigs), and a few reptiles. I love to read, sew, take pictures, and travel. "
" I have worked as a nurse since graduating from Eastern Mennonite University in 1992. My experiences include working in the hospital in ICU and maternity and a pediatrics office before becoming a school nurse. I have always loved taking care of children and have enjoyed my role as a school nurse since 2011.
I am a transplant from Ohio and fell in love with the mountains of Virginia during college. My husband and I have also lived in South Carolina and Pennsylvania before returning to Virginia to raise our three, now adult, children. I enjoy walking, reading, scrapbooking, watching sports, and being outdoors with my family. It's an honor to work in such a diverse community. "
